Building Your Dream, Step by Step

Building a home involves many decisions, and each step matters. We keep the process clear, organized, and focused on your goals. From the first meeting to post-construction follow-up, we guide you through each stage with straightforward communication and steady attention to detail.

FIRST MEETING – YOUR VISION

Since your future home is an extension of you and your family’s lifestyle, our first meeting is one where we primarily listen and seek to gain an understanding of your desires and what you envision. We’ll take notes, view pictures that you bring, and try to gain an overall idea of your wish list, desired features, themes and styles. We will seek to fit all this into a timeline and budget that works for you.

PROPERTY SELECTION

If you are looking for a homesite, we can assist you in finding a subdivision or rural property that meets your needs. If you already have a homesite, we will view it together and discuss views, house orientation, tree preservation, access, and other considerations. We will put our experience to use at this time as we assess the property, its topography, grading and excavation considerations, and landscaping ideas.

THE PLAN

Next, we will work together to develop a floor plan and elevations. Starting with a conceptual plan, we will adjust it several times before it is sent to one of our recommended draftsmen/architects who will generate the drawings. At this stage, detailed considerations come into view and get addressed.

We often recommend having a designer review the plans for furniture placement and cabinetry layout before the working drawings are finalized.

CONTRACT / FINANCING

During the drawing stage, we work together to develop detailed specifications and an allowance schedule. Once finalized, we will proceed with the construction agreement, permitting, and financing. We can recommend several lending institutions that offer construction/permit loans.

CONSTRUCTION

During the construction process, we maintain frequent communication and we have many onsite meetings where we walk through the progress with the homeowner. Beginning at the excavation stage to review the preserved trees and continuing through the stages of framing, mechanical, electrical and plumbing rough-in, millwork trim-out, cabinetry, tile, and finishing touches.

We pride ourselves on our project management, communication, and being available to our clients.

COMPLETION / MOVE IN

Nearing the completion of your home, our team performs a thorough punch list item review.

POST-CONSTRUCTION

We give our owners a one-year warranty. Manufacturers of items such as windows, appliances, flooring, HVAC, etc., give extended warranties on their products. We also will set up various times after move-in to address any further punch list items that come up.

We start with a discovery meeting to understand your goals and budget, then develop plans and detailed pricing. After a fixed-price contract and allowances are approved, we handle permitting, build with close supervision, and finish with a thorough walkthrough and post-move-in support.

Both. We can evaluate your property for the best home location, setbacks, and tree protection, or help you locate and assess a homesite that fits your desired plan and budget. 

Both Tom Ertl and Wade Wilson will share job management responsibilities including coordination of selections, job site meetings, and availability for owner questions & changes. 

Ertl Wilson proudly stands behind the quality of our homes.  We perform an extensive punch list near the end of the job and address any punch list and service items after move in.
